- --------------------------------------------------------------A scenario idea...
-
- This is my conception of the scenario which would fit the best
- to BM...
-
- I think it should be cool to choose game-style which could make
- everyone happy. The problem is that there are people who will prefer
- a Doom-like, with guns, other would like a Hexen-like, with magic,
- spells, etc... Perhaps could we choose a universe like the one which
- is briefly described down here, and which is a derivation of
- Shadowrun, a _great_ RPG. I know there's already a scenario and, as
- far as I can remind, this one is quite similar, and it will be easy
- to mix them, I think. Please tell me what you think about it. I think
- this one gives us the opportunity to have a very open game.
-
- The action takes place on Earth, in during the 22th century. The
- Technology has developed, and the Magic, which had disappeared for a
- long time, came back in our universe. Some humans discovered they
- have magic abilities. But very much people were scared by those ones,
- and the 'mages' were forced to retire from the population, in tribes,
- joining the plains, for those who prefered to be in contact with
- Mother Nature, or in what is officialy named 'Copperfield districts',
- but which are the ghettos the governments reserved to magic-awaked
- people, for those who prefered to stay near the city. The governments
- haven't understood the lessons of the past : ghettos are no solution
- for problems. They are problem-amplifiers...
- And this was verified, once more, as people who were only able to use
- telekinesis on light objects, or to command little insects,
- encountered, some of them fell in love, and so on... The problem is :
- the magic awakening seems to be a genetic attribute, and the children
- of two magic awaken oftenly have more powerful abilities. And this
- process continued over the time, so that the fourth generation since
- the reappearance of Magic on Earth had very marked abilities.
- Moreover, the magic-awakened had time to study how to master their
- abilities. They formalized the Theory of Thaumaturgy, which includes
- Shapes and Techniques : the Shapes are Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Life,
- Energy and the Techniques are Create, Destroy, Transform, Repulse.
- These are the ones currently discovered. Different groups got in
- touch, and communicated their discoveries. Each Copperfield District
- has got its own Magic School, and every magician in the world is part
- of the Thaumaturges' Guild, which is an association dedicated to
- mystic and occult studies.
- One of the other major consequences of magic reappearance, is that
- the imagination and the 'real' world (but what is 'real', in a world
- where you can see someone lighting a fire just concentrating ?) are
- directly able to communicate... Dream exists... Well, there are
- rumours saying that someone found a door to Fantasialand in his cave,
- and was negociating with Mickey Mouse to organize 'Trip to
- Fantasialand', for children... This seems to be funny, but there are
- other examples which aren't funny... Some of them aren't funny at all
- : some people imagined _really_ frightening and dangerous creatures.
- Some invented vampires and lycanthropes, and some of them are not
- cool guys. Some imagined far greater monsters, like Lovecraft, with
- his Myth of Cthulhu... And some fool guys invented religions, which
- seems to be the worst source of dangerous creatures ever invented
- (Gabriel, the Archangel, seems to be responsible of several burnings,
- in Los Angeles, and he said 'I don't understood... I really thought I
- had already destroyed Sodome... Now I must find Gomorrhe...'). And a
- team of speleologists declared they had seen a strange dark creature,
- fighting against a nude old magician, which seemed to be very
- powerful, when explorating deep caverns in Europe. Here's an extract
- from their declaration :
-
- ... Then with a rush it leaped the fissure. The flames
- roared up to greet it, and wreathed about it; and a black
- smoke swirled in the air. Its stream-ing mane kindled, and
- blazed behind it. In its right hand was a blade like a
- stabbing tongue of fire ; in its left it held a whip of
- many thongs.
- 'Ai, ai!' wailed Jim. 'A monster ! A monster is come!'
-
- Doors to Imagination are regularly appearing, and disappearing, and
- laws were voted in every countries in the world to severely punish
- everyone who discovers a door and doesn't inform the local
- authorities about it. But it's said that some huge corporations, like
- Outel Corp found some doors and treated with powerful forces which
- came from the Imagination side...
- Sometimes, the transfer between the ImaginaWorld and RealWorld makes
- the transfered creatures unable to access their full power, out of
- their originary world, as when they are located in another world ,
- their energy must be transfered from their world to the current one,
- and the ISA (Imagination Super Access) door transfer rate seems to be
- limited...
- Some _very_ special teams were formed and charged to go the other
- side of Imagination Doors, and to destroy everything which seems to
- be dangerous there. Those teams generally includes Fighter Mages,
- Soldiers, and even sometime Dheckers.
- The origin of the word 'dhecker' is a mix between 'hacker' and
- 'decker', and it concerns technomancers, who penetrates the Net,
- using some hardware, partly inserted in their brain, and partly
- located in a console, the 'deck'. Some of them are good enough at
- their -illegal- job, that they can crack some corporations
- protection. When they are 'wired', they are in a VR world, which
- represents the net, in 3D (well, in fact in 2D :) ). When they try to
- access a corporation's network without authorization (they _never_
- have authorizations...), the protection programs are represented as
- agressive entities, which can be anything (a tiger ,a viper). More
- the dangerous program is, more its representation will be agressive
- looking : a very little counter measure program won't be
- representated as a huge dragon...
-
- In this scenario, the players will be some people of those
- 'teams', charged of the scary mission to clear the dangerous sides of
- the Imagination World. They can also be charged to investigate about
- suspect corporations...
-
- Then, we must be able to choose between several character types
- : the characters will have different intrinsics, like Strength,
- Intelligence, and so on... and won't begin with the same
- 'professional object'...
-
- Magician
- Clever, not strong, he begins with a short sword, and some
- magic item, as a 'professional object', like a spellbook. This book
- will allow the magician to cast spells, focusing the wizard's Magic
- power. If the wizard can put on armours, he never does, as it would
- be far more difficult for him to cast spells : magic energy is unable
- to go through body protection equipment...
-
- Soldier
- Not very clever, but strong, and with a high Constitution,
- he comes with one or more cool weapon, which will be his
- 'professional object'. A UZI III will fit very well... The good way
- to start the game, for a beginner... There will be no possibility to
- use button combinations with guns.
-
- Modern Times Knight
- This one is the spiritual son of King Arthur and his
- court... The only way to fight, in his opinion, is using the sword...
- Well, he uses a _magic_ sword, but this implies to fight in a special
- way, as other monsters are oftenly able to make remote attacks...
- Those guys are oftenly depressed people which are searching a way to
- die in a a useful manner, rather than suiciding, killing as many
- chaos creature as possible, with no fear of death. Their way of life
- is fighting, and fighting is a way to death...
-
- Decker
- Clever, he begins with some middle+ weaponry, and quite a
- good armour. He is not particularly strong, but can be very useful
- sometimes, when penetrating a network, as he can open some doors
- easily, so that his friends haven't to search security cards, all
- over the corporation building to open them. But when wired, he also
- risks his life, as some sophisticated protection programs are able to
- burn the decker brain, making deep hardware access to its in-brain
- inserts... This is the way the famous SOK 'Son Of Kibo' died, killed
- by a Dragon counter-measure, coded by Appaloosa Corp's coders...
-
-
- I'd like to have feedback about this scenario, ie if you like it
- or not, why you like it (or not), and so on... I think this one have
- the great advantage we can make every kinda level we want, from the
- Horror-Gore one, to the Star Wars one, very easily, and the world
- will keep its consistance...
